About the Artist

Jo Engstrom

Jo’s lifelong passion for art began in rural Idaho, where childhood mud pies sparked a creative journey spanning sculpture, couture design, and painting in both oil and watercolor.  After studying Fine Arts at Brigham Young University and dedicating years to raising a family alongside her husband, Kevin, she fulfilled a dream by earning her BFA from Boise State University in 2004.  This formal training deepened her exploration of various mediums with watercolor and sculpture emerging as her enduring favorites.

Now living in Washington, Utah, Jo brings scenes to life with a realistic eye and a sensitivity to light, color, and emotion.  An active member of the Dixie Watercolor Society, she teaches and exhibits at Gallery 35 in St. George.  Her work reflects a desire to look beyond the surface, capturing not just the appearances but the essence that stirs the soul.

“I first picked up a watercolor brush at age 45 and was instantly captivated by the medium’s unpredictable and mystical nature.  Though challenging, my early experiments with complex glazing and underpainting were deeply rewarding, sparking a lasting passion for watercolor’s endless possibilities.”
